How to polish marble? Let’s discover it with the best work of October
A beautiful professional marble polishing intervention in Ovada
The most beautiful work of October brings us to Piedmont, precisely in Ovada and makes us discover a wonderful intervention of marble polishing, performed by some real artists of the sector.
Ovada, surrounded by green hills, is a Piedmontese village located on the border with Liguria. Characterized by a charming old town and narrow streets lined with colorful buildings, it is very reminiscent of the Carrugi of the Ligurian villages. And it is precisely the most beautiful work of October that leads us to the discovery of one of the most characteristic buildings of this beautiful historic center: the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie (called San Domenico), a cathedral built in the eighteenth century that encloses a fine Romanesque workmanship and that, inside, is still an authentic chest of precious religious works of art.
How to polish marble
The marble polishing intervention was carried out inside the Church on a pavement made of precious white Carrara marble and imperial bardiglio. To restore and polish this precious marble floor, some real artists of the sector have been called, the company VIGO SUPERFICI S.R.L.S., professionals who for three generations have preserved an ancient artisan craft with the aim of restoring dignity and beauty to the artistic heritage that the ancient Venetian and Genoese masters have passed down to us: the floors in grit seminato and marble mosaic. Vigo has often had the honor of bringing ancient churches back to their original beauty by restoring and installing mosaics, portals, altars and sacred images, and Marbec is very honored that its products for polishing marble , have been chosen as partners in this prestigious intervention. But let’s find out in detail the phases of the intervention.
Before polishing the marble
The Church’s surface is made of white Carrara marble and imperial bardiglio: the first is “the marble par excellence”, which marked the history of each artist and that of the greatest sculptors; the second, characterized by a dark gray color which can vary in light / dark color, is able to give a unique elegance to the environment in which it is installed; the two floors appeared rough, irregular and opaque, being subject to continuous trampling. In fact, marble pores, if constantly stressed, tend to make penetrate microparticles of dirt that, in the long run, stain and ruin it. Before the intervention, both types of marble had lost their natural shine.
Products for polishing marble
Let’s see specifically which steps and which products were used to polish the marble. After a thorough cleaning, for the first polishing, a crystallising powder was applied to the marble surface for marble and grit: KW-STAR. This product is a powder that contains micro-abrasives for polishing all types of marble. The polishing action takes place progressively during the mechanical action of rubbing. As a second step, to increase the polishing effect, KW-L, a powder product for wet crystallization of marble and travertine floors, was applied with the help of a floor scrubber. KW-L gives shine to the surface without creating films. It maintains the natural appearance of marble, making surfaces not very permeable to water and dirt, facilitating cleaning. Thanks to the skill of the master craftsmen and to the properties of our products to polish the marble, the flooring of the Church has returned to shine and to enjoy a wonderful and shining light, ready to stun citizens and tourists.
