The most beautiful work of January leads us to fantasize in one of the most magical places of our beautiful peninsula, the beautiful villa Pandolfa. An elegant and historic residence placed in the hills of the Rabbi valley, surrounded by a fantastic landscape characterized by breathtaking views, hectares of greenery and dreamy vineyards. A timeless place, full of charm, that today thanks to the characteristic rooms, from the library, to the central hall with the four side rooms on the ground floor, lends itself perfectly to hosting prestigious events and receptions. It is precisely a marvelous room in the villa with its historic cement tiles floor, the protagonist of the restoration work we want to tell you today. The work was carried out in the fresco room, in which the talented artisans of the C.T.R. BY SABBATINI MAURO from CISTERNA DI LATINA were called to intervene and recover the prestigious flooring of the room made up of beautiful yellow cement tiles which, unfortunately, due to time and deterioration, appeared to be particularly deteriorated and stained.
Cementine, a true passion
Cement tiles, back in fashion in the last years for their highly appreciated vintage style, are tiles born in the 70s and take their name from the structural composition. In fact, these tiles, better known as colored cement pastes, consist of a cement and sand base and an agglomeration of marble fragments mixed with cement and natural oxides. Their particularity is in the surface layer that, unlike that of the grit made up of large and clearly visible pebbles, is a mixture of very fine sand and iron oxides. Cement tiles can also be recognized by their shape, which, in addition to being square, is often hexagonal, due to their opaque appearance and their splendid geometric or floral decorations. These tiles, which have made the history of Italian coatings, give the rooms a retro charm and timeless aesthetic refinement. The hand-painted motifs that give to the cement tiles that taste and that liberty and decò style, have fascinated and continue to passionate generations of architects, interior design and more. Back in the limelight, in fact, they are one of the most popular coverings and represent interesting furnishing solutions that perfectly match modern and contemporary styles. It should be remembered, however, that the cement tiles are as beautiful as they are delicate, therefore, for proper maintenance, they need a lot of care and attention. Floors in cement tiles can sometimes be damaged and appear in disastrous conditions, just like those found on the frescoed room wall by the talented professionals of C.T.R. But let’s discover the interesting phases of the intervention, which brought to light the beauty and historic elegance of this fantastic surface.
The restoration of the cementine: the phases
Restoration of cementine
Considering the state of the flooring, as the first phase of the works, the artisans decided to carry out, to restore the beauty and the structural compliance of the flooring, a restoration and the grouting of the old cement tiles.
Deep cleaning of the cement tiles
Once the restoration phase has been completed, to eliminate the cement residues and to effectively clean the entire surface, a deep cleaning of the old cement tiles was carried out. To ensure a perfect result, two washes were carried out with SGRISER, a powerful alkaline-solvent detergent that removes from absorbent and non-absorbent stone materials:
- old treatments with oils and waxes in general and some polymeric films;
- carbon black and carbon residues;
- “Dark spots” caused by sulfation;
- deposits of dirt, grease, blackening of atmospheric pollution, deposits of green algae and molds.
The product was spread over the entire surface and left to act for 20 minutes. After the appropriate minutes, was rubbed with buffers and removed from the flooring. This step was carried out twice consecutively.
Stain removal of cement tiles
Subsequently, once the building waste has been eliminated, to neutralize the stubborn oil stains on the tiles, the entire surface has been washed with TIXO, a specific product that allows to remove the most stubborn stains of oil, animal and vegetable fat on stone materials. A stain remover ready to use, which has been applied on the stain to be removed with the help of a spatula. Once dried, it has been removed and rinsed with an acid solution. Once the deep cleaning phase is complete, the cement tiles floor is ready to receive a strong protective treatment … to be continued! Firm executor of the works: C.T.R.
